SaaS solutions leveraged by Obama’s transition team

This article discussed how Barak Obama’s transition team on the Change.gov site is now using the SalesForce.com ideas product. This tool lets companies easily setup sites that allow their customers to submit ideas for their business or organization, and then let other customers vote and / or comment on them.

This tool is also currently being leveraged by both Starbucks (more here) and Dell (more here). Clearly, SaaS solutions like this one speed up time to delivery for what normally could be a challenge in estimating usage and size: especially for larger organizations like Change.gov, who don’t have a clear idea of what the uptake could be (it could be a massive amount of traffic!). SaaS platforms like Salesforce.com allow a company or organization to quickly launch a tool like this, an not worry whether it’s used by just a few users or many thousands, scaling is all taken care of by the platform.

  1. Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
